Sayabouly, the Province of Elephants, Laos

Sayabouly province LaosSayabouly (Xaignabouri, Xayabury, Sayaboury, Sainyabuli) is the province the less reachable of Laos. 

The province is separated from the rest of the Laos by the Mekong.

Sayabouly province offers beautiful walks and outdoor activities at hearth of a spectacular rugged landscape with beautiful forests.

Indeed, Sayabouly is famous for its varied fauna including including Sumatran rhinoceros , gaur , tigers, Asiatic black bears , especially elephants but which are endangered nowadays.

The province hosts the famous  annual Elephant Festival of Laos that takes place in February of each year.

The event is gaining  international recognition more and more broad due to the large elephant population in Sayabouly province.

Moreover, The art of Tai Lue's weaving is still practiced in many Tai Lue villages throughout the Sayabouly province. 
Tourists can visit villages in order to see their lifestyle and to learn about the production process but also to purchase textiles.‚Äč


Located: in the nothwestern of Laos.
Total area: 16,389 square kilometers.
Population: 374,666.
11 Districts: Sayabouly, Khop, Hongsa, Ngeun, Xienghone, Phiang, Paklay, Kenethao, Saysathan, Botene and Thongmixay.
Capital of Sayabouly province: Sayabouly.

Elephant Conservation Center discovery

Elephant Conservation Center discovery - Sayabouly Province - Laos

The Elephant Conservation Center is the first hospital dedicated to elephant victims in Laos. Composed of an international team of elephant veterinarians, the Elephant Conservation Center offers veterinary care services, an emergency unit, a laboratory and facilities to control animals before to surgery.
